Oxytocin
Date: 2012-07-14 07:55 pm (UTC)That little molecule is involved in the birthing process causing uterine contractions. Sans as an abortificant, this is not something you want casually sold to just anyone in the hopes it will improve everything about the world, and now it's being overhyped as a miracle molecule, which I think is silly, considering the types of synthesized phero blends I've playing around with lately.
While this hormone isn't without its uses, it is only one of many that is involved in basic human relations, and one the hype over this one is over I'm sure this-or an actual pheromone blend-will be replaced in the headlines as well. I'd get in it more, but I don't have the links on hand with me right now.
Rape jokes
Date: 2012-07-14 08:10 pm (UTC)That said, if you heckle a comedian he or she will say really shitty things to you in return. If you heckle him during a boring rape joke, he's going to come back with rape jokes directed at you.
Uh, no. That does not talking about how funny if a woman in the audience got gang raped okay, not remotely, that's a threat, not a joke. Regardless of what a heckler said, what he did was sociopathic.
The best way to stop rape jokes is to ignore them.
Like bullying, cyberstalking, harassment, what planet does he live on? Everything after point 2 is about lecturing people to shut up about hate speech. At least some links in the comments section was useful:

Date: 2012-07-14 01:02 pm (UTC)If it only reaches the first tier then everyone has to pay up and all you get is an 8-level expansion? No thanks! If it fully funds all its stretch goals then great, DG2 will likely be awesome but I'm not risking paying for what may be a small expansion at five times what I paid for the original game!
It's a nice idea but their tiers are all screwed up. If, towards the end, it looks like it'll make the final stretch goal then I'll chip in but not before. If everyone thinks like me (and judging by the comments on the RPS article, quite a few do) then it'll never get funded and Hidden Path will have no-one to blame but themselves.

I _can_ tell you that when you make jokes about certain subjects it makes me feel bad, of course, and then you can decide what you want to do about that :->

Date: 2012-07-14 06:07 pm (UTC)I don't mind criticism of things - if you've recently read a book and hated it, then by all means tell me of its awfulness. But going out of your way to engage with things just to rant about it seems a bit of a waste of time (and unpleasant).

Date: 2012-07-15 04:58 pm (UTC)It's weird because in casual conversation I'm a total snob about some stuff and I'm sure some folk think I will dis them for certain likes and dislikes, and perhaps that's slightly true, but I will always find people who are fashionably cynical or ignorant about something more annoying than the people who like that thing. If you enjoy America's Next Top Model, that's nice for you. If you put real energy into slamming it... well, I think that really says much more about you than it does about the people who like it.
