I'm still not especially worried - if they actually reach melting point they're designed to flow down into the concrete containers. We're not going to have another Chernobyl on our hands. But I'm glad that they're being precautionary.

Re Mice 'singing':

Having listened to the sounds, my gerbils did something pretty similar to this ALL the time - except in a more audible range - though I had to hold them right up to my ear to hear them. I can hear "ultrasonic" "rat scarers" though, so maybe that helped.

My ultrasonic hearing is rubbish. I was trying a variety of MP3s the other day that are used to keep kids away, and I was hearing nothing and wondering if my sound card could actually play them when Julie shrieked "What the hell is that noise! Make it stop!"
