It's not that difficult to do; you soak it in nail varnish remover I think, and the card disolves, leaving you the chip and the metal wire aerial.

For a while, until I started mislaying 'em (and ended up with 6 or so of the things), I kept my oyster card with a glove, slipped the glove on when I was traveling with the card above my hand, and just rested my hand on the reader as I walked through. I've occasionally considered getting one of those sweat wristbands, cutting it open, sticking the card in, closing it up, then using that.
