Date: 2010-06-16 01:16 pm (UTC)Why ever would you build a bridge like that, instead of a much cheaper and safer conventional one across the water followed by a much cheaper and safer small flyover on land? Unless the land available on either side was so insanely constrained that this was in fact cheaper. Which given the location is not entirely improbable. Or a double-decker standard bridge would do the job with even less land take.

I could however see them doing something like this, in light of future increased traffic, just for the gimmick/postcard factor
