On Friday Sophia was supposed to be having a play date, but when her friends' mum tried to pick her up from after school club she burst into tears and said she was too tired.

Jane went to pick her up early, but she was clearly out of sorts, and threw up on the bus. That night she slept badly, with regular applications of paracetamol for a fever. I assumed it was just One of Those Things, as she was still pretty responsive through all of it.

Saturday she was doing a bit better, but still clearly not great. She had a white tongue and wouldn't eat or drink because everything tasted wrong. I tried about ten different foods on her with no success. Finally at 4pm posting a request for suggestions on various social networks.

One of the people who responded is an old friend. Who is married to a GP. Who asked for a photo of her tongue. And then told me that if it was their kid they'd phone NHS 24 to get an out of hours appointment.

So I did. And they gave me one at 22:40. So we put her to bed at the usual time, woke her up 90 minutes later, and we got a taxi to the Western General. Where she was diagnosed with Scarlet Fever and given antibiotics. It turns out that strep A is having a great time right now, and that's what Scarlet Fever is.

Over Sunday she felt much much better, although food still tasted bad. Jane eventually found that seafood sticks and rice cakes were both acceptable though. And she had enough energy for a couple of brief episodes of running/climbing/jumping.

Today we took her into school, filled in some paperwork, and handed over the antibiotics to them. They'll have to go back and forth for the next 10 days, as she has to take it 4 times a day, with two of the doses being at school.

We then took Gideon to the Sick Kids ENT department, where we were going to finally get a test that showed that his hearing was fine or not. Only to find that they'd booked in the "Talking to the consultant"part, but not the hearing test part. So now they're going to reschedule that bit. All of which adds on to the ongoing saga (since August 2020) of trying to get Gideon's hearing checked.

And now Jane is dropping Gideon off at nursery and I'm on a bus to work. Hopefully the week gets easier from here!
