A temporary move
Sep. 25th, 2023 09:42 amWe are currently living over at our friends home on the other side of the city for three months (we are incredibly grateful to Clare and Anindya!), thanks to a lucky coincidence that has them out of the country for a few months in the same year that we are having our extension constructed.
So, a week ago we moved enough stuff over to their home to let us live there medium term. And then had the Monday off because it was a school "in service day" when the teachers get training and we get to have a fun time with Sophia. And then Jane went down to London for the day for work (she goes down every month or two to see them in person), so I did the first drop off for the pair of them from the temporary home in a taxi, and then the rest of the week passed in a blur.
The old routine had a round trip from home->nursery/school->home of about 45 minutes. Each of us would take one child, because otherwise it would push us over an hour to do the trip. The new routine is about 90 minutes there and back - and that's assuming we can each get off a bus, get the child to their destination, and get to the bus back in about ten minutes.
We're one week down, with twelve weeks to go. We can do this. And we're in a lovely house for it. But any days where there's a need to do anything out of the ordinary is going to involve taxis. Which will still be significantly cheaper than renting somewhere for 3 months for the four of us would have been.
