He now greets me with an excited "Daddy!" regularly, sings along to his favourite songs (#1 right now is "Going on a lion hunt"), and just now, when asked if he was ready to stop playing with his train set and go find mummy happily said "No".
He and Sophia also happily spent ten minutes earlier chasing each other around the living room, taking it in turns to be the chaser and giggling wildly. This is the first time this has ever happened, and I am delighted by it.
