Only the end of the world again

10 years ago, probably at the instigation of Ed* I watched Last Night, about the end of the world. It's not about the people out there saving the world, but about a few average** people trying to live the few days they have left. I love it to bits, and it's better than this trailer makes it look:

I've seen trailers for things like Melancholia (which I fancy), which seems to riff on the same idea. But this seems to be so close that I wonder if they aren't going to end up taken to court over it:

As I like both Steve Carell and Kiera Knightley, I'm still rather tempted though.

*Who loves Callum Keith Rennie, Don McKellar, and canadian film/TV in general.
**Presumably for Canadians.

A poll about my posting style

There are two ways I can do commentary on the posts I write.

The first means putting footnotes at the bottom with an asterisk* or two**.

The second uses a bit of HTML jiggery-pokery so that I can have underlines under bits, which then pop up some extra text when you hover over them.

*like this.
**or this.

Alan Moore makes me laugh

[livejournal.com profile] octopoid_horror emailed me that, and I laughed enough that my cold-inflamed throat turned into burbling sounds. Which got me a concerned question from Julie in the next room.

If you don't get it, then you haven't read Watchmen. Which is ok, as nowadays Alan Moore doesn't want you to.

(Me, I'm looking forward to seeing what the reviews are like for the prequels, and the wailing and gnashing of teeth as various bits of comics fandom tear themselves apart.)

Two brief thoughts inspired by the works of Chuck Lorre

1)It was nice, a few weeks ago, to see a Settlers of Catan joke made on broadcast TV.

2) Ashton Kutchner looked much better with a beard.

That is all.
