Not my life
Jun. 4th, 2007 09:43 pmMySpace outage leaves millions friendless.
Cheers to
surliminal for that one.
In Chicago alone, an estimated 50,000 people remain trapped in their apartments, with no way of contacting the outside world about new bands, Adult Swim cartoons, or the latest video games.
"Without an 'About Me' section, I've lost all sense of self," said Imbrescia, 17, who depends on the site to convey his innermost thoughts to millions of extended-network friends. "Do I want kids? How tall am I? What's my body type? These are questions I can't answer anymore. I'd pray to a god for help, but I've lost my religion field."
The American Red Cross is currently setting up a network of approximately 60 smaller-sized "fill-in" sites, where lonely MySpace users can post abbreviated profiles and receive instant messages from aid workers in half-hour increments.

I'm off to see The Sandman
Jun. 4th, 2007 10:11 pmWell, to be accurate, I'm off to see Neil Gaiman, Tanith Lee, China MiƩville and Charles Stross. And to be even more accurate, I'm doing so at next year's EasterCon, which I've just booked a place at.
Should you be thinking "But what's an Eastercon, and why would I be interested?" then take a look at this year's programme to see if there's anything that might attract you.

The effect that art has
Jun. 4th, 2007 11:09 pmOver here you can see Far Side cartoons done in a photorealistic style. What's interesting is that they just aren't as funny as the original. It's now clear to me that Larson's clear, simplistic style contributes a lot to the humour of the strip.

versus

Which reminds me of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Which a lot of people complained about the art style because it was simple, cel shaded and cartoony. This was unpopular because lots of people think that new, modern games ought to be getting closer and closer to photorealism rather than aiming for some kind of thematic artistic unity. What I loved about Wind Waker was that it revelled in its identity as a game - items only existed if you could interact with them - there was none of the usual disconnect between the visual environment and what you could play with, because everything was iconic - a representation of its function - pretty, but there because it was part of the process you were going through. But no, because it didn't look "real" the players rebelled.

And while I like Twilight Princess it lacks a certain amount of the simplistic purity that its direct predecessor had:
