And this time it's not my period.

Was sneezing all morning, and then developed a headache in the afternoon to go with it.

Despite all of this I went out to Shoot First, a short film evening at the Filmhouse.

There were four short films - and there will now be spoilers, because if you weren't there tonight you're never seeing any of these movies:

Mantrap seemed completely pointless to me. Two people trapped in a lift, and one of them turns out to be a werewolf. This is an idea I've seen done in a single page as a comic and about 40 seconds on Buffy before, and therefore didn't need to be a ten minute movie unless they were going to add some kind of interesting twist to it.

SweetStained was clearly made by people who thought that gangster movies ought to be confusing, full of flashbacks and double crosses, with pointless death sprinkled everywhere. They had, however, forgotten that having it all make sense at the end is generally considered worthwhile. With a bit more work they could produce something good, but this sadly wasn't quite it.

Love You, Joseff Hughes was very sweet, gorgeously filmed, nicely acted, and I loved it to bits. Two children wander around a ruined church and graveyard, talking about memories. At least a couple of the people I was with thought it was overly-sweet, which I can understand, but I was clearly in the right mood for it. There's a great interview with the director here.

Boy Lost Girl - in which a young man bumps into a girl on a train, falls for her, and completely fails to get her number. He then tries to track her down. Some very funny moments, but could have done with being punchier, and about 2/3 the length. Promising though, and fun.

And with that I'm going off for a very early night, in the hope that come the morning my head will not ache even a little bit.
