Vain!

I got to dance to Fade to Grey _and_ Geburt Einer Nation (Laibach Nuremberg-esque cover version of Queen's One Vision), chat to Anna _and_ got introduced to Phyllis, a friend of Erin's who's cute, interested in a wide variety of artistic type things _and_ a gamer. Has a boyfriend, before someone asks, but also has a livejournal, so I can at least have another Edinburgh person to communicate with.

I need to know more people that do things.

I don't normally point people to things other people on my friends list have written, but in this case I'll make an exception:

When you visit the goth scene, you're expected to bring along a very definite sense of who you are and what your scene is.
"I'm not a goth... don't tell anyone. I'm a black metal girl"
"ah. I don't know what I am" I say honestly.
"how old are you?"
"I'm 22"
She was already getting up when she threw down a patronising "you'll find out"

"Hi, I like post-apocalyptic industrial-trance crossover between the years of 1990 and 1993"
"Really? Me too! Let's fuck"

There are now 6 people on my friends list who I haven't met, despite them living in the same city as me.

Part of me really wants to meet them, to take people who I chose because I liked their writing, thoughts and personality and bring them from my virtual life into my real one.

Part of me knows that this would cause a fair amount of dissapointment, because in my head I've already filled in gaps around what they've said, added in my own subliminal details about who they are and idealised them into someone that a real person could never live up to.

And part of me enjoys standing in The Mission or walking into an alternative-film and wondering if the person in the next aisle is one of these people, if I'm 5 feet away from a connection I already have. My eyes sweep the room and I subconsciously pick someone out and wonder if it's someone I already know.

Some day, I hope, I will meet you all.

Anna came back to mine, as did Khi, although she took herself elsewhere to be with her very own 20-year-old. So Anna got the futon, settling in to watch In the Mouth of Madness with Erinfor 10 minutes before lapsing into unconsciousness. Erin then came to bed (4:20) and woke up again at 10:00, before heading off to work at 11:30.

I was vaguely awake by this time, so I slumped onto the sofa myself and watched Futurama (Slurm episode)followed by Prince of Egypt and more Futurama (Single Female Lawayer episode). Anna then wandered off, looking remarkably cute in a sleepy-headed manner.

Which left me playing with photos and Fotki (very cool site, probably going to subscribe) for the Red Lounge Reunion. And posting on LJ. And looking at the link Scott left me for the House of the Dead trailer, trying to summon up the courage to click on it.

Oh, today's sign of encroaching age: I can no longer headbang all the way through NWO, my neck gets far too sore about 2/3 of the way through. On the other hand, hearing it again reminded me that Ministry's Psalm 69 (the way to succeed and the way to suck eggs) is one of the coolest albums ever.
