Which is why I'm probably going to be changing bank very soon. Trouble is, I reckon most other banks will decide it's a great idea (since it massively overcharges a huge number of people) quite soon..
I got that letter today and will be changing my bank account asap. Once it's done I shall be telling BoS where they can stick those ridiculous charges.
They sent us a load of bumph about this. I called them and basically said ' WTF why should I still have an account with BOS?' and they replied that I could change to one of two other accounts: a reward account that gives you a fiver (pcm?) and a sort of 'royalties' account that you need to give them ~14UKP pcm for a load of stuff like insurance, road cover, etc). They claimed they could convert the account by phone while still maintaining the sort code, account number and direct debits, etc.
also, be warned: changing to another bank is a nightmare with BOS. They took months to 'automatically' transfer direct debits to the new bank and dalglivk had to pour money into her old BOS account AND her new one while BOS dragged their feet over it.
I don't tend to use my overdraft, so I'm not too worried about this. Certainly not planning to move banks.
I _do_ believe those other accounts also have the overdraft fees, as my leaflet says that the £5 a month could be used to balance out the overdraft fees.
You'll note that they've stopped paying interest as well.
yes, but the 5UKP on the 'reward account' is more than the AER I'd get on the balance anyway :) Anything to do with the overdraft fees doesn't apply to me. I'm solely interested in how much money I can get for my money :)
