If by 'access my bank account by snail-mail' you mean 'get bank statements in the post'...

I'd like to do that, since on the rare occasions that people give me cheques I tend to have to make a special trip into the town centre to pay them in, and it would be very nice to be able to do the same job by walking twenty paces to the postbox near my house. But my bank doesn't support it as far as I know.

Oddly, it's the only pay I can pay in cheques with Smile as branches of the co-op bank are few and far between. I just haven't seen a cheque in ages... until one arrived in the post, 10 minutes after I filled in the poll!

*blinks* I hadn't known that, I assumed that practice had died out at least 20 years ago - well that changes one answer. I also assumed that it meant getting bank statements by mail.

Oh, yes, I get bank statements in the post. I generally only write to them when something goes wrong and I want to formally complain.

Does using a cashpoint machine count as "in person"?

In which case my answers stand.

Well, I answered "in person" as a substitute for "by ATM"... as more than 90% of my banking is by ATM.

Ahh, right - in that case there isn't a box that I can tick for that question! ARGH NO!

Oh, I guess if mailing a check counts... then I should've also checked 'by snail-mail'... ...but not for the above (unrelated?) question. I do that only for utilities. (Gas, water, electric)

For me, "in person" covers various special requirements, e.g. getting bank cheques as part of car and house purchases, opening/closing accounts, etc.
I try to do everything else online. And finally, our home loan was organised through a "mobile banker", who visited us a few times, delivering and collecting paperwork as required.

the majority of possessions i have acquired over the last year have been from charity shop bins.

e.g. logitech speaker system (w/ sub), two tents, shelving, office chair, cd racks and storage boxes, two metal framed rucksacks, a kite, two lamps, a load of dance music vinyl, multiple items of tupperware, two large mirrors, a range of books, several tealight holders, various items for craft/making purposes, and a fair bit more. that's not counting what i've gotten from the freeshop, although that has mainly been clothing. oh, and, among other things, an 8 port switch, a large hi-viz jacket and a huge roll of silverfoil tape from the skip that was next to the new hotel on the royal mile.

Sorry, I ticked the wrong box in the first part! I have of course bought many, many new items online.

Not sure how to correct the tick boxes...

I just pressed the back button (after I'd posted my comment!) and resubmitted the poll - it seems to have worked!

But next time I'll click the link...
