People Are Not Rational

Read it.  And remember it next time you're having problems communicating.

(cheers to [livejournal.com profile] cybik for reading it and thinking of me)

Hmmmm... A nicely written piece. to be a nitpicking pedant (and either miss or satarise the point the post is making) it would have been nice if lip service were played to the idea of cognitive continuum theory...

It's a way of describing how people make decisions. Essentially a continuum from the rational to the irrational (or vice-versa) used to describe how people make decisions/assess risk etc. A lot of the post touched on some of the ideas that are in the/related to the theory (such as inconsistancy of action and the like).

I used to have problems communicating. Then I was beseeched in the Bowels of Christ. So now I can't even sit down.

Does this mean you'll now be posting each poll three times? I think you should.

People behave rationally according to their own world-views, just not everybody elses. Just because they don't do what you want or think they'll do, doesn't mean their behaviour isn't rational (and logical) from their POV.

"They accept organisational oppression for months and years and then walk out over desk positioning or coffee machines or the wording in an email."

Perfectly rational, as you don't want the organization you just had to leave to know the real reason you've left, least they start improving the minute you leave.
