andrewducker: (how awesome I am)

_This_ is what I wanted this morning, and all I was finding was the BBC article I linked to:

Now, what I want is this _now_, working in front of me.  Because until someone I know has tried it, I don't believe it's not at least 50% hype.

Wow. That is so totally NOT what I want. Ever.

I remember the fuss about people hurling their WiiMote into the TV/lights/windows/dog/whatever. It'll be strangely hilarious, watching multiple FailBlog posts of people doing exactly the same with their feet/hands/head.

It's a nice idea, but - like you - I'll wait until I've seen it actually work, consistently, in a real environment.

Most definitely. Also, I wonder about problems caused by a cat walking through the room and other potential sources of interference.

1. Kids are going to get their arse smeared if they try fighting using the techniques they learn off this, ergo:

2. Soon there will be martial arts training modules for this.

Also:

A: There will be interactive porn on this within the year.

Year? You think it'll take that long?

In all honesty, I think it'll take about 3 weeks after Microsoft open the code access to 3rd-party dev (and I'm ignoring "sideprojects" worked on the sly at Microsoft itself). But who knows when that will be? I guess, within the year, and I'm quite willing to acknowledge that I'm being conservative.

Two things struck me:

1. No-one is ever gonna look THAT ecstatic about being a pit-monkey and changing tyres in a racing game. Ever.

2. That's a bad example question for the family quiz demo at the end: "How many pressups can Chuck Norris do?" No-one knows because all the judges die from roundhouse kicks to head. see www.chucknorrisfacts.com.

This would be very cool if it actually worked anything like it does on this advert, which of course it won't.

There are aspects to accurate motion detection that are wonderful, but dear holy Jesus, would people stop thinking that people want to play games like that as standard? The Wii is a great party game and it has many other uses such as Wii-Fit etc, but it isn't going to become the predominant gaming platform over night 'cos really, too much damn work.

Plus, based on how the Wii's sensors are working right now, the motion detection will be off, massively.

And you'll probably need to be able to buy a house that size to afford it. :)

But going back to the vision of the future, yes, accurate motion detection, want, now.

As always, we can rely on the analysis of YouTube commenters:

"This is like the gayest shit ive ever seen. Whats the point of video games with this. Go outside and ride your real skateboard you fucking idiot kid."

Fair, I think.
