Where's the "Andy has waaaaay too much spare time on his hands: Yes/No" question? :)

Why would I want to make a poll about repairing socks? ;)

I take it from this comment that there are people who DON'T have bathrooms like this?

Weirdos...

I always felt it was unhygenic to leave the books in there and alan reads books on his phone

So I remain unremorseful about your shock

I certainly don't leave borrowed books in the bathroom because they do tend to get wrinkly from the steam when you shower.

I probably would if I'd ever had internet capacity in the bathroom. ;)

The only reason I answered "no" to the first question is that I'm usually a "one-book-at-a-time" reader of printed material, so any reading on, er, "personal time" would consist of whatever literary work is in progress at the time.

My "smallest library" consists of those short short article books. Like "Why do men have nipples" and "Does anything eat wasps", and the Darwin Award series.

There used some Gary Larson in there, but I didn't put them back last time I moved house.

Reading while in the smallest room - particularly when it's the only smallest room in the dwelling, and when there are other people in the dwelling who might want to use that room - are reserved a special place in Hell stuck behind all the people who stand on the left on public escalators*

But surely this only applies if it actually makes people stay in there longer? If the amount of time spent doesn't change, then what does it matter if something is done to pass the time?

Well, that's entirely subjective and dependent on the cold air tolerance of one's bum.

But as the person who's always the one who needs to get in there, I still have constantly failed to imagine what can take half an hour upwards.

I'm never more than a minute. Maybe 2 at the absolute most.

You know about my ongoing unknown gastric condition, right? If at some point any doctor can figure out what the issue is maybe I won't have issues going, but trust me, I do.

And also, given that I know I have some issues, I never object to someone banging the door and asking if I can speed up, I sometimes have to go back afterwards but...

I don't remember specifically having posted to LJ or FB or whatever while on the loo, but that doesn't mean I haven't, necessarily.

My ideal shower would have a water proof touch screen monitor in it linked from a terminal server so I could access the internet, music and tv while I was relaxing in it. Toilet, less of a priority.

Agree - I read in the bath, and would LOVE to find a way to read in the shower but toilet - meh. I don't get why people find it comfortable to stay in. Maybe I'm just a fast poo-er, but there doesn't seem to be time to read without dawdling.

I admit I sometimes read round the shower curtain, when I really, really want a leisurely shower, and really, really want to have something to curl up with.

I'm curious. How much time do people generaslly spend in the bathroom (not in the shower etc.) that would necessitate a supply of reading material?

I would never have a bathroom with books in because I care about my books. Mildew makes sana sad. Toilet would be fine. And yes, I know reading matter doesn't have to be books, but I don't have a huge amount of non-book reading material..

Also, I have dropped my phone into a sink before. It'd be worse if it fell in the loo because then I'd have to bleach it.. Doing the same with a laptop? Nah.

I often take a book into the bathroom, but it would feel strange to have a collection of reading matter near the toilet (because it would feel irrationally icky) or near the bath (because it would feel like it was going to become damp and shrivelled).

I mostly take my own book into the toilet. I quite miss having a decent supply of reading in there, but there just isn't space for it in my current bathroom - though there are a couple of Dan Browns on a rather hard-to-reach shelf. 'Emergency toilet paper', according to my flatmate.
