Hah! That first piece is very useful - I was attempting to explain to someone why the "super-rapid blast of ideas" style of lecturing works, and that pretty much covers it...

Are you feeling a bit fidgety and manic (in a cheerful away) today then??

I've known hugely optimistic people who are also suspicious and occasionally paranoid. But they were also sub-manic (mania promotes seeing too many connections, IIRC???).

I was deeply unimpressed with the article on optimism & genetics. I've seen a fair number of studies (sadly, I have no links at hand) showing that both depression and pessimism are frequently the result of trauma, especially childhood trauma (of various sorts).

Turns out that some students concentrate better when allowed to fidget, move about, stand, etc.

Yup. That is good effective teaching. :)
