Date: 2009-01-20 12:53 pm (UTC)"The people that choose to stick by me are smart and possibly share some of the socialisation issues I have" or
"The people that are smart, cut their losses and run ... it's only the stupid people that hang on"
(vast generalisations!)
I like to think that I'm above average for any particular group I'm in, but at the same time happily acknowledge that there are people smarter/more capable/more talented than I in any given subject or area.

(x) ... With different average intelligences
(x) ... And my intelligence lies between at least two of these averages
otherwise I could still tick a box without complaining)

Date: 2009-01-20 04:57 pm (UTC)Define intelligence.
Book smarts? Probably top 0.5%. Spacial reasoning? Pretty good.
Ability to dismantle a car and put it back together so it works? Bottom 10%. Draw a pretty picture? Tell what colours go well togther for clothes or, say, a website for a client? No clue whatsoever.
I is dead smart at things that are referred to as "intelligence" by a lot of people. But I'm crap at stuff that others are much much better at.

Date: 2009-01-20 05:07 pm (UTC)I've always been fascinated by sciencey type things, and now work in IT.
My sister's interested in music and works in PR.
I think people would point to me as the intelligent one, but I bet my sis would score higher than me on a IQ test.

Date: 2009-01-20 05:14 pm (UTC)When I graduated as a mature student, I ended up working for her for a bit. I was "the smart one", but she was teh one who held that office together and got the big deals in.
I was good at the number crunching stuff that was sometimes needed, and could fix the computers/update the website, but writing the content or making deals with big clients? Her skill.
I reckon though I'd score much higher tha her on IQ, I still rate her smarts equal to mine,t hey're just not IQ type smarts.

Date: 2009-01-20 07:54 pm (UTC)While I rate reasonably high on an IQ test (most of the time), I think the fact that I can reasonably cope with many different types of task/situation is on the whole more important to me.
I worked with a street sweeper who had a double 2nd degrees in modern language and business so appearances don't say much these days.
