Personally, I'm with the commenter here who says:
"I've always thought that Zombies were a clean jab at the very nadir of the uncanny valley, giving voice to our deep, biological fear of disease, and of it claiming our loved ones while endangering us, even to the point of making it too dangerous to care for them, or even mourn."
Except that I'd say that while it's about the uncanny valley - it's more about the making of the known/safe into the other/dangerous.  And that's why I find 28 days later so effective - it's the people you know and love, only full of rage and hate and out to cause you hurt in any way they can.

Looks like Rick Veitch artwork, esp during his Swamp Thing days.

I don't believe in the uncanny valley. But I can get behind everything else you're saying.

You interpretation is interesting.

I'm terrified because there are so many, and I don't have faith in my ability to out run or out bat them to death, death is inevitable and full of horrible terrifying anticipation.

Maybe my fear is lack of fitness and program of events, not zombies; poor scapegoated zombies...
