Oooh, I thought, wandering through the local Cartridge World store a few weeks back - I can pick up a 1GB USB Flash for a tenner. That's really good value!

Of course, I'd completely forgotten that prices drop incredibly quickly in the world of computing. So when I realised I was going to have to compromise on a solution for carrying my settings around with me I went and checked prices for sticks. And discovered that I could pick up a name-brand 4GB stick for £11.32.

Note to self - never buy hardware in a shop unless there's a damn good reason to think you might have to take it back.

Since you've been doing the research - any idea what current prices on 8Gb and 16Gb sticks are?

Never buy consumables either. We did a brief pricing survey recently and found that the price of genuine, branded, printer consumables (inkjet cartridges etc.) in local shops is almost exactly double the price they are going for online.

Paid 8 Euros (about 5 GBP) for my 4GB stick just before X-mas in my local supermarket. Now 1 month later the 8GB sticks are only 10 Euros.
