andrewduckerGoing back through the large pile of detritus on my desk, I come across the front cover of the Guardian for the 21st of November this year.
It shows a piece of paper mocked up to look like it was torn from a dictionary, and it reads like this:
fuck /fAk/ v. formerly coarse slang 1 Mild expression of exasperation or surprise, equiv. cripes, crikey, blimey, damn, darn, dash it all. 2 n. Neglibible amount of concern (esp in. I couldn't give a) 3 Conversational device favoured by Brit. middle classes to obscure speakers social background (as in Didn't you think the Pinter series on BBC4 was fucking brilliant?) 4 Non-specific verbal punctuation device favoured by C21 Brit. children. equiv. umm, errr 5 fucking ppl a. & adv Adjective enforcing adverb cf. very, exceedingly, rather jolly.
