I've only started to post to a filtered group in the past few weeks. Before that, pretty much everything was public and I really enjoyed posting to anyone who might have been passing.

I'd say mine's pretty close to 50/50 public/somehow locked, differing at different times, so for example when most of my posts contained information about how I HATE MY JOB!!1!, or about people who don't have ljs, I locked all those. So mostly public is a guess, not a very clear majority.

Re question 1, most of the time my posts are about things that I want to remember, but I try to word them in such a way that my general friends might find them interesting. Rather than actually writing posts intentionally for the audience. So I've put "general friends group" but in a way the answer should be "just me".

I really don't like having to friendslock all my perosnal stuff, but have to due to the lunatic stalking nutjob ex of a man I was briefly involved with and a major problem with stalking.

Y'know, one of my next substantive posts was going to be a poll containing a very similar question set. With a fair bit more, but yeah, I might nick some of those Qs.

Re the last. I signed up to keep in touch with my friends. It then became a diary, and has now morphed into a full on blog with diary/keep in touch elements. Good to see that's a general consensus.

That last question: I wanted to pick all three, but I ended up with going with #2, though in retrospect, Facebook isn't like that for me.

I didn't answer the last question, because for me LJ is none of those, it's its own thing (which is why I like it so much). I post a lot of day-to-day diary-style stuff, which I intend as a way of keeping in touch with friends; I read a mix of day-to-day stuff written by my friends, and interesting things written by people. Probably more like Blogger than Facebook, but with (for me, at least) a much stronger sense of community.

Definitely nothing like facebook, which encourages one liners and photos.

I went friends only because I didn't like the automatic rss-feed. It's irrational, I realise, but I only want people to read my journal through the frame of lj. The way they've got the feeds set up the only way to that is to be friends only. I'd rather my random politics and knitting and cooking stuff was open to anyone with an lj account, but that's not the way they look at it so I came up with my work around.

Wait, are we supposed to be saying what we think about you or talking about ourselves?

I want it to be about 75% of getting my thoughts out there and 25% as a way of keeping in touch with my friends but it ends up being more like 40-60.
