[livejournal.com profile] ianjcoleman had this link to a map for Traveller - the SF RPG. What's amazing about it is the sense of scale it gives.

Zoom right in - take a look at the number of worlds there are, how many systems, confederacies and empires you can see. Then zoom right out and take a look at how big the entire mapped area is.

Space is big, alright.

I do have some powers of resistance - like not quoting THHGTTG around now :)

The thought I did have is to wonder if anyone has ever done a comparison between the volume of the universe (presumably its finite as it is expanding.) vs the volume of the human brain. Its big out there alright, but it might just be a little small in here too.

It's a fine, fine map indeed. What's impressive is that they've scoured all of the canon sources, and used some of the decent fan-produced material as well. Try looking for the route of the Core expedition from the Zhodani Consulate, for example (starts six sectors to coreward of Zhodane - you'll need to zoom in to 4 pixels per parsec to see it).
