Yesterday
Saw Curse of the Golden Flower, which was gorgeously pretty, well acted, etc. But ultimately pointless. In many ways I felt like I was watching Eastenders with swords - a bunch of unlikable people bicker pointlessly with each other and then it all descends into bloodshed at the end. Did I care about anyone in the movie enough to worry whether they lived or died? Did we get to find out whose fault it all was? Did anyone not come across as a complete scheming bitch/bastard? Thank goodness it was full of teh shiny. Oh, and any film that has retractable ceiling ninjas gets extra points automatically.
Today
Went to the high court. Failed to get through the randomised selection process, which I have mixed feelings about. On the one hand it was fascinating and I'd love to be on an actual jury. On the other hand it was a murder case and looked likely to be unpleasant. Maybe next time I'll get onto the jury.
Badminton with Ed, Ellie and Andrew. Great fun, but next time we're going to book two courts rather than one. And I'm buying a decent racket, as we managed to break the two cheap ones we had by hitting the shuttlecock too hard.
Oh, and the pound finally hit two dollars, after days of not quite making it.
Tomorrow
Helping Hugh move boxes and suchlike at his flat.
Friday night and Saturday morning
SpajLan II: The reckoning. 8 of us do battle via Dawn of War and Quake 2.
Saturday evening and Sunday
Help Erin pack the last of her stuff and then move flat.
Monday
Hayseed Dixie and Heroes. Heroes continues to be one of the few things worth watching on TV. Hayseed Dixie are a band that I've had recommended on numerous occasions, largely by [livejournal.com profile] purelyskindeep, who is also going.
Tuesday
Go to Glasgow and meet Ellie's mother's puppy. I'll do pretty much anything for a puppy, and I don't know anyone in Edinburgh who has one. So Glasgow it is!
Wednesday
Amber game, next session. I'm enjoying this, but glad it's only intermittent.
Thursday
[livejournal.com profile] andabusers has a barbeque.

And then it all goes quiet for a bit. Which is nice. I'm sure something will have filled things up by then though...

Hey - I've been meaning to congratulate you on your promo for ages, but keep forgetting / getting sidetracked.

So - congratulations!

I had the same reaction. After the depth of both Hero and House of Flying Daggers, I was very disappointed.

Heavens I thought Hero was so shallow I decided to skip HOFD - if I want art I guess I'll go to an art gallery. Films need more than mere beauty.

I liked Hero. Simple, but well executed. HOFD I enjoyed less so, as it was very much a stage play as a film, without any truly cinematic bits. Curse was probably my least favorite of the three. While it looked beautiful it just didn't go anywhere and that's something I can't forgive a film for. Much like a farce, it all came to no point.

THERES NO JUSTICE!!!>??!!

Did anyone not come across as a complete scheming bitch/bastard?

I heard one of them was an undercover cop, but I don't know who shot nice guy eddie.

I felt some of Curse of the Golden Flower was a tad over the top, but I guess that was the point. I preferred Hero.

Emotion?

Emo-tion?

E-mot-ion?

I'm not certain I know what that is.

Is it warm enough for evening BBQs in Ed!

Hmmm must remember it takes puppies to tempt you through to Glasgow. How about a bag of sweets as well!
