I went to see Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets last week.

I'd completely forgotten that there's a really nasty spider scene in it for about 20 minutes.

During said scene, I nearly broke Erin's hand. Every time I realised that I was gripping it very hard, I started to reduce my grip, looked back at the screen and gave a yelp, redoubling my attachment. I also itched all over, causing my leg to jerk a few times when I felt things move up it.

I have also woken up 3 times in the last week following nightmares concerning spiders. Once where tiny spiders were coming in through the air vents of a car, once where there were spiders in trees and on walls, but nobody else would believe me, and one that's thankfully faded from memory.

Bear in mind that my spider fear is far, far less than it was a few years ago. I can now fairly happily deal with small spiders (i.e. half-inch in diameter or less). Large hairy beasts are another matter.

Nevertheless, telling my workmates caused an spider-stories conversation that has left me itching all over.

So, next time someone recommends that I watch Ticks or Arachnophobia or Eight Legged Freaks because "the spiders are more funny than scary", I'm going to tell them exactly what they can do with their spiders.

They're coming to get you

I remember sitting in the cinema watching the film and thinking "I wish Andrew was here so I could drop a toy spider on him, right now..."

Great, there's a topic for a new nightmare right there... >_>

I dislike spiders and will kill them if they're in my car or domicile. I dislike creepy-crawlies in general, so telling me there's a spider on my shoulder while I'm driving is not a good idea. I have a friend that is phobic, and it was quite fun having him ride along when someone pointed out an 8-legged critter on his jacket. Two people in the back saying "Don't kill it!", one big man screaming like a girl, and a swerving driver shouting, "Kill the goddamn thing already!" ... 6_6;;

Thankfully, I've never had any dreams about spiders. My last serious RL incident was when [livejournal.com profile] imester was driving us someplace and we were stopped at a traffic light. Something came in my window that looked like a very long-legged spider (and turned out to be a crane fly [something that looks like a giant mosquito in case you don't have these things in Britain]). I started screaming and trying to kick it into the floor with my legs. I'm *very* glad the car was stopped when that happened...

Someone would have to pay me a whole lot of money to get me to see Arachopobia or Eight Legged Freaks, and I'm now beginning to reconsider seeing the latest Harry Potter film.

Thankyou for reminding me that Araknaphobia exists. I'll have to have some more nightmares now. :o

I don't mind spiders. I can deal with them by saying "they're very very small, and I could step on it and kill it". That's while it's just sitting there. When it starts moving, I'll be the one disappearing rapidly down the corridor / hallway / etc.

I heard someone say something a while back: Lots of animals don't know how to react to spiders; they have no ancestral memory of them. Aparenlty, people theorised that spiders had been left here by aliens, or something. Sounds about right. Aliens are scary too. ;)
