Torchwood Redux
Jan. 15th, 2007 09:02 pmIn conversation with Ed, it suddenly occurred to me that Torchwood is the Who-verse equivalent of Justice League: Antartica. Cardiff is clearly the place you send people who are incapable of working in a team, dealing with complex moral situations or handling anything at all without messing it up terribly.
If they kicked off Season two with an episode which made this all explicit - and used that as a turning point for the characters, then determined to act like decent people and find out what was really going on, I'd actually be tempted to tune back in...

Ah well, despite all their faults, I still loved the series...

Date: 2007-01-16 02:14 am (UTC)In any case, I liked the season as a whole, but some of the early episodes were pretty darn dubious (4 & 5 were especially bad) and the season finale was the worst thing I've seen on TV for quite a while. However, episodes 8-10 were utterly brilliant (and were among some of the best TV I've seen since the handful of absolute best episodes of Buffy) and 7 & 11-12 were all pretty good (although, 12 would have been significantly improved with a few more attempts at continuity - all you would have needed to say about the magic rift machine was that it was slavaged from Torchwood: London, where it was used to help open the way for the "ghosts".
