After the third person mentioned it in the last two days, I'm starting to think it's a simultaneous worldwide phenomenon.

I read somewhere that every woman's cycle would still be in rhythm with the moon if it weren't for the amount of artificial light we are exposed to.

I haven't had a period since Oct 2005 but expect them to start again at some stage, so my answer is somewhere half way between 'No' and 'I din't get periods'

Likewise. Different dates, obv, but likewise.

Mind you, I'm feeling quite manstrual...

My answer is facetious, obviously.

What next? "I have masturbated in the last 24 hours: yes/no/I don't masturbate/I do masturbate but lie about it"?

Is it forbidden knowledge?

Yes! Ia ia Cthulhu fhtagn! :oP

I need a tongue-in-cheek emoticon...

There is evidence (or at least urban legend) that women who live together all end up menstrating at the same time.

I don't now I have the stick-in-the-arm.

No, actual evidence. Something to do with pheromones, I think.

seconded. pheromones. pretty much proven by experiment.

me - I resist all such conformity! Horribly irregular. Even moreso if I don't get very regular sex.

Every man should carry one!

LOL! you'd recommend it then?

I'm not sure everyone needs one, but in some cases anything at all would help!

A friend of mine wistfully remembers the days I practically lived at her place as my HBC driven cycle used to keep her insane PCOS cycle in line.

In one of my former jobs, the head of accounts had a wife and two daughters and they were all in step ... and one week in four he would arrive at work every day looking quite scared.

If you'd asked yesterday it would have been a yes!

As someone else said, I've heard that people living together have them together - and two friends at Uni certainly seemed to suffer from this phenomenon.

In the modern world with all the different methods of contraception it is so easy for us women to not have periods anyore - I said farewell to mine almost a year ago and was worried I may still get the emotional impact without the physicals but hey I'm just grumpy and bad tempered every day of the month now!

I am using the merina IUS - which is a move on from the IUD. It contains a hormone impregnated in it which gets released constantly into your system, thus stopping the whole bleeding palaver. Hey I've just told the whole world which method of contraception I use!! Anyway the best method is total abstention as practiced by my good self for the past 6 months. I wish to start a sisterhood of born again virgins! Or at least pretend to until James Spader arrives naked on my doorstep!

I was on Depo for nearly 10 years and no periods but it rots yer bones...not that they told me that.

Pill makes me too hysterical (ha ha, nice pun huh?).

Any form of hormones and you run the risk of reduction of sex drive. In some cases seriously. And in many cases permanently - even once you come off. I am not joking, it's HUGE issue just waiting to surface... Not to mention the whole fuzzy-brain effect (but maybe not eveybody gets that).

And (unless you tell me differently) you can't have a hormone-soaked coil if you've never been pregnant - won't fit. It was hard enough to get someone to fit a plain one... I hope there is some one competent about when I have to get mine changed next year. Why can't they make one that lasts 20 years!!!

i love polls normally but that was just a fabulous question :)

And it will be a "yes", most likely, in 2 days.

I remember once working in a place with 40 women who were all synchronous. We thought about putting a warning on the door for any poor passers by. For interest an article on menstrual synchrony. For amusement there is a museum. And there is also classic black and white videos.

by the time i got to the poll, you are at 9 yes - 23 no

I know of short 2 days on, and of a long 7 days on, , so taking the latter, you would still expect the numbers to be closer to a third... so there are more onm now than should be??

especialy as you take out the folks that don't get them or havn';t for ages,...

I think you are right, a simultaneous worldwide phenomenon...!

I'd expect it to be closer to a fourth, since the average "regular" period is 28 days... 7 / 28 = a fourth.

Yesterday when I looked, it was indeed surprisingly close to a fourth. Maybe some people changed their answer today? My answer would have been different today than yesterday.

Three hours into my first day back at college on the third, and I'd already been told in somewhat disgusting detail about the state of the cycle with some of my female friends. They're in step too apparently. So yes, it darn well is a worldwide phenomenon! And I really do *not* want to know if it is darker than usual, or lumpy!
