Imagine that you're holding the controller for your new Wii. Which has a small speaker, motion sensor, and microphone in it. And you wave it in a slightly complex motion, and chant "Expecto Patronus" loudly, causing a white stag to appear on the TV screen.

How many children would sell their parents on ebay to play this game?

Black and White already did a similar sort of thing on their interface which would translate very well to the Wii. As for Harry Potter... meh. I'm sure kids would love it though (even big sana-sized kids ;) )

I'm buying. I've been eagerly anticipating the Wii.

Sony has lost my die-hard loyalty. Constant delays and now the news that only 400,000 units will be released in the US (becasuse they only HAVE 500,000) have really left a sour taste in my mouth. Plus, at US $249, the Wii is WAY more in my price range than a US $500 PS3.

And the games, oh, the games. The PS3 games are reputed to cost between US $70 and $100.

There's just no way.

That's pretty much what they're planning for the Wii Harry Potter game. Well, the waving of the wiimote in a specific way to cast spells, at least.

I know the feeling - I remember reading the bit in Cryptonomicon where Randy bemoans his lack of true geekiness and feeling a strong sense of sympathy.
