A thought about last night's Dr Who

He has absolute time sense. He was in the vehicle that was holding open the hole between universes. He knew exactly when he'd fade out. He _has_ to have left the sentence unfinished on purpose.

Of course! He couldn't really have said that.

Oh, I like that. Cos then I can fanwank that he never meant to say it, he was just trying to make Rose feel better (and he could afford to give her a false idea of what he felt because she was stuck in AlternaVerse.)

Not that I think he doesn't care about her, just not in the overwhelmingness way the shippers seem to demand.

Gah! I so agree with that! It was perfect because it gave everyone exactly what they *wanted* to hear or not hear - now everyone can draw their own conclusions and fanon will have a field day :)

Darn tootin' ... but I think he didn't not say it because he wanted Rose to think he was going to say it and missed the chance, I think he wanted to say it (whether or not it's true) but because of his otherness it's really something he can't bring himself to say so he let the fade happen even tho he knew when the connection would be lost.

For my own part, I was curled on the couch thinking "dontsayit dontsayit dontsayit ..." because I prefer the tortured hero to the happy ending. YMMV. :-)

You know, my other thought was that the thing he'd never get a chance to say again was actually just 'Rose Tyler'. Nothing about love or anything of the sort at all.

I hate that idea. it is so calculating and cold : I hate it and I hate that you could think of it!

Oh, of course he did. He's the Doctor, they couldn't have let him say it and I'd have been ever so pissed off if they had. Yes they we close and yes they've had a good time but she wasn't special, she wasn't any different from any other companion there's ever been. I'm glad he didn't say it, it would have been ultimate proof that Russel Twee Davis was fucking the Doctor up and I don't want him to do that.

That was my thought exactly. Yes, he cared for her. The Doctor has cared for all of his Companions. But he always had such fun saying "Rose Tyler" in various manners -- to get her attention, to pick on her, etc., that he absolutely had to say her full name again!

Which in some ways is even MORE heartbreaking than the idea that he didn't get to say 'I love you'. Sniff!

Whether or not he has absolute time sense is up to debate, I'm pretty sure. That's one of his abilities that seems to fluctate depending on dramatic need.

In addition, a strange woman teleported onboard the TARDIS at the same time. If he didn't slip up, then it likely means that her appearance shortened the amount of time he had available to him, without him knowing it.

Doctor in Love - NEVER. It is one off these rules. I'm sure there is plenty of slashfic for that, maybe even Mills and Boon in the waiting. The world was rocked in the comic relief one when he snogged at the end. Anyway isn't it Tom Baker's role to "love" all the companions?
