I just discovered that peanuts aren't nuts. Which explains a lot.

Well, it explains one thing. But it's a thing that's been puzzling me for ages, so that's good.

LOL! really, you only just found that out?? I have known that *forever* that they are a legume. Since I was a kid. What did you find puzzling about them? That there were several in the pod?

Mind you, I suppose not everyone is as obssessed with food as I am...

Did you also know that they can have a really nasty toxin from a fungus that grows on them? (but all the ones we eat have been checked/cleaned/whatever)

Also, I wonder why the news isn't full of kids getting anaphylactic shock from peas? Apart from that you can never get the little buggers to eat them...

see, I wonder that. An article I read the other day was on about peanut allergies, went on to mention other, actual nut, allergies but not a word about peas or beans??

I also always wondered if the allergies are a reaction to the trace toxins - but apparently roasted peanuts are the worst and I'd think that's do for most molds...

Why they need to warn you that the packet may contain nuts. If it had actual nuts in it, they wouldn't need a warning.
