Dreamt last night that Jed Bartlett was the result of a hot-house experiment similar to the one Tom Strong went through. Oh, and that he played country music when growing up. Which was odd.

And I just watched the trailer for the never-to-be-seen Aquaman TV series. Which had a couple of nice ideas but the acting wasn't there at all. Ving Rhames seems to be very, very good at saying lines as if he has no idea what they actually mean, a talent he also put to good use in MI:3.

Aquaman's an extremely difficult character to get right. (He's borderline laughable at all times). Even DC had to reboot the concept and go with a different take on it. Astro City's Kurt Busiek is behind the reimagining...

I am so glad that series was never made. So very glad.

Why? No-one would put a gun to your head and force you to watch it.

Unless sir's a closet aquaman fan.. ;-)

Because I don't feel the world needs another generic show.

If it had been an entirely underwater Aquaman show, that'd have been nice maybe. But since I'd give good odds this would have become Aquaman's Creek, it is no great loss to the world.

Oh absolutely in this case. It's just that I can happily exist in the same world as shows I'm not interested in at all (Desperate Housewives, ER, CSI) and simply not watch them.

So can I.

However I think it's disappointing when they take things that could be good (a superhero show) and make them into something that has already been done to death. I don't, for example, need another sci-fi or dark modern show about some teenage/twentysomething girl kicking ass. I'd like there to be something different, otherwise the genre just gets more and more stale.

In the same way I'd rather have original films than endless remakes.

Well I think we do agree in part. However I think that Smallville, a show I know you hate, is absolutely the best way to do a Superboy show. A silver age Superboy with a cape would just be ridiculous today.

It was popular, and they thought they'd build on Aquaman's appearance in the show (which was popular) by expanding with another show. Worth a shot.

I don't disagree about Smallville. Yes, I hate it but it is the best way for that kind of story.

The problem I have is that it is a very overdone model, whether for superhero stories, horror things, more sci-fi things and it'd be nice for things to change.

It's like CSI. I like it, except with three different versions of that AND all the endless other shows identical to it, I get kind of tired.

Same as how NYPD Blue did the whole gritty police thing and then every other police show went gritty.

I prefer pissed off and angry hook handed Aquaman from the Justice League cartoons as opposed this teen friendly man-bimbo. Ving looks pained throughout this teaser.

*shudders*

Why can't they leave comics alone - I say! If they cannot do it "properly", leave it on the shelf where it belongs ;)

Christ - I fear the day when Warner Bros or Toon Army try and adapt something like Howard Chaykin's Black Kiss.

Vampire Shemales anyone? In kid friendly format?
