Back in the olden times, if I wanted to know about something I'd google for it.  More recently, I'd gotten into the habit of checking out the associated Wikipedia article (I have a shortcut set up on Firefox for http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=wikipedia+%s so that I can just type "w whatever" to google for the right article).

I realised that this was pretty silly a fair chunk of the time when looking at tech stuff, so when looking into Winny (a Japanese P2P program) I just googled for it.  The top hit was, of course, the Wikipedia article for it, thus proving Ginsberg's restatements of the first law of thermodynamics.

And now the whining.  My initial thought, after returning from the doctor's this morning was "Oh goody.  I can get some stuff done around the house today."  Ha!  Spent it sitting on the sofa watching TV.  The System of the World, the book I'm halfway through (and thoroughly enjoying) has been entirely beyond my capacity to get to grips with.  Simple internet conversations became draining.  On the plus side, I'm in the perfect mood for Friends episodes I've seen 4 times before, because they're the intellectual equivalent of hot chocolate - totally uncomplex and lacking in anything that might require effort.  This LJ post took me about 10 minutes to write, because I kept having to take pauses and gather myself.  Bah!

I am, however, going to drag myself to the corner shop and buy soup.  Mmmm, soup.

:-) Such is the nature of sickness. And sometimes that sort of mental state (or lack thereof) just strikes randomly and goes on for far too long...

Hmmmm soup indeed. Though IMO, soup is something you *make* not buy. Piss easy to make most kinds (though if you are kind of mutant who likes Cream of T*****o then I have to admit, Heinz is the only way...).

What would we do without Friends?? You know my Mental Health Friends Episodes per Week Index, right?
Buy bread and butter and milk too. Nice bland stuff. NOT pepperami..

Things could be worse - you could be writing 6,000 words on ebay ADR..

Sounds a cool day apart from the whole ill bit.

Still abit wary of wikipedia: I have come across a few things that the facts really need to be checked out on. Now got into the habit of first port of call then double check the details. They are currently trying to start a wiki in similar format for the medical profession - something I am even more dubious about! I caught a doctor trying to open an electronic door by flicking the light switch today! You would think the whole light/dark thing was a way of saying you've got the wrong switch.

They tell you to avoid dairy products (including yoghurt & ice cream)?

Depending on what type of lurgy (technical term) you have yoghurt etc can protect the stomach lining (like in excess acid, ulcers etc) or feed the bacteria that is causing the problem.

I gues your Doc knows what type you got, thats cool.

If you still want to use Wikipedia, check this out:

http://mycroft.mozdev.org/quick/wikipedia.html

You can get a search bar plugin for wikipedia. I have mine set there most of the time because I tend to read wikipedia for sheer entertainment value.

obligatory bit of advice giving - peppermint tea, but most of all hope you feel better soon, you've had bad innings, old boy and i seem to be turning into p.g. woodhouse...

(its hard to commiserate without risking the sincerity of the tone, and Feel Better (USA), Get Well Soon (GB) sound like slightly impatient injunctions. Maybe I should have just sent you a picture of some chicken soup...(oh my god now I'm racist)
