I'm lucky - I live in the UK, where I'm largely surrounded by people who may, in some way, feel that there's more to life than what they can see around them, but in general don't follow any specific religion.

If I lived in the US, I'd almost certainly feel more like this.

Do you feel left out because nobody persecutes you for being an atheist?

Thanks for the link.

The US is a big place, and a lot of it isn't relentlessly Santist.

I think I'm probably both. I believe there's no god, but, you know... I'm not that sure. I couldn't rule out every possible conception of a Supreme Being, that's almost as silly as being absolute confident in any one idea of It...

I'm pretty certain there's no omnipresent, omnipotent Creator, but I don't altogether rule out higher-consciousness sort of things.

It is always somewhat of a disappointment to me, after meeting people who otherwise seem pretty cool and/or intelligent, to find out that they are Christian. I tend to assume that intelligent-seeming people wouldn't believe all that stuff... so when I find out, it's a let-down.

By the by, I'm planning on seeing 'Jerry Springer the Opera' next year in Edinburgh. Interested?

Good article.

Although, unfortunately, my kids were victims of bullying for not believing in Santa, so I can't even rely on sane people not doing that.
