There's a meeting room at work called the Castle Room.  It is so called because it has a good view of the back of the castle.  It's a fairly unique view, as you can't get it unless you're 5 stories up this particular office building - buildings in front are too close to get the panorama, buildings behind are, of course, blocked by the building itself.

You can see two pictures I took here.  It's worth going to the very largest view of the first picture - which allows you to see Princes Street on the left, and Arthur's Seat on the right, with Calton Hill in the distance on the left, greek monument barely visible.

Our meeting rooms overlook parking lots and prairies :-(. Darn that Illinois plain and American lack of style.

Dammit. Now I need to visit Edinburgh again. Like, right this very minute. No money, passport's expired, storm coming means no chance of getting a plane anyway. Dammit.

That is so amazingly cool! I have a general fondness for old architecture (and was in raptures during my one visit to Paris a few years ago), which is usually utterly frustrated by living in Brisbane: everything here is at the very most approaching 100 years old, with the vast majority of buildings being put up in recent decades. Before European colonisation, of course, there's no architecture at all. I can see an Anglican church across the road from my window (10th floor), which was built in a neo-gothic style (and is apparently still being built; 100 years later, they're finally getting around to putting in a bell tower).

I am most envious of where you live. It's almost enough to go through the rigmarole of getting a working visa and trying to find a job in Europe...
