A certain amount of sense
Jul. 7th, 2005 06:38 pmI as hoping to get a decent amount of work done today, after the disruption of the last few days. Sadly, just as I was settling in, someone decided that bombing London was a good idea.
I spent a fair chunk of the morning either checking that various people were still alive (via LJ, and specifically
london_070705 - which did a great job as a central clearing point), phoning parents to make sure they weren't travelling into London (Dad's meeting was thankfully in Redhill, not central London), and reading the BBC. Fortunately, things calmed down after a bit, and there was nothing horrendous this afternoon, so I was able to get some work done.
I hope that all of you are safe, and are spending the rest of the day with someone you care about - personally I'm off out to play boardgames, but my heart goes out to the people who were caught up in the terrible events this morning.
I'm gratified that I've seen almost nobody declaring war on anyone so far, and that people are being fairly reasonable. I don't trust the Al-Quaeda announcement that's been made - and while it may turn out to be true I'm not yet convinced. I hope that we deal with this well, and that the people responsible are brough to justice, but I think the worst thing that could happen now would be for this to inflame people and make life worse for any innocents.
