_Not_ Randomly Generated
Mar. 15th, 2005 05:20 pmI started a whole rant about how annoying I find the randomly generated LJ Drama entries making the rounds at the moment, but I really can't be arsed. Let it just be said that I want to read about _you_ and what you've been up to recently, what ideas you've had and what your hopes and dreams are for the future.
At a push I'm vaguely interested in what Harry Potter character you would be, or what fruit is most closely aligned with your soul. Because at least most of those quizzes are based on things _you_ said about _yourself_.
I could even be interested in a link to the LJ Drama creator, where I could have hit refresh a couple of times to see what amusing drama could be created amongst my friends.
Having my friends-page broken up by random strings of words punctuated by the LJNames of people I don't even know, on the other hand, is just irritating. Especially after the 20th friend posts it.
Oh, and apparently I can be arsed after all. Go me.

In other words: Quite. I suppose some fun comes from maybe seeing your friends list respond to how they've been positioned. It's not that different to how the other ones work where they say at event E, X is most likely to throw up while Y runs off with Z.
Although I differ from you in that I have a vague idea who these people are and find imagining the scenario SO much more interesting than five people reporting that they are the letter P.

Even more irritating is the fact that the individual(s) who compiled the Drama Generator can't spell some fairly common English words.

Yes, they're just random little things that throw out random names. But people on your friends list -like- them. If you're reading a livejournal that isn't your own, then you can't expect other people to tailor their content to suit you. They'll post things that interest them, whether it's extensive surveys found on the internet, random name generators, "amusing" photoshopped pictures, links to sites that you may or may not have scene, endless comic strips, or their own thoughts and feelings. Having someone on your friends lists means that things that interest THEM will appear on your friends page.
I don't post those things at the moment, but other people can post what they like. It's not as if it even takes a second to move the mouse wheel enough to scroll down the way.. and this connection is quite fast, so I don't have to wait forever for them to load.
I'm sure, if you were really bored, you could write some code to filter them out of your friends page, so you never, ever had to view them.

Or filter your flist accordingly. =)
BWAHA.. I got this. No really, I swear.

My only regret is that it doesn't include MORE lj names. "And then also I think x is thinking about sleeping with y when x KNOWS I am thinking about sleeping with y which is just gross since we ALL know y is thinking about z. At least a, b and c know it. And you know, that's everybody.
