The disadvantage of a cordless mouse is that it needs to be recharged. Which is, y'know, fine, as it comes with a handy holster thing.

But if you forget to put it _back_ in its holster repeatedly for two days, then it starts to fail.

At which point you end up putting it back in for thirty seconds, then taking it out to click on something, then puttign it back in again to get a few more seconds of power.

Fortunately I'm largely keyboard-oriented, and mostly coding at the moment (exploring how new, virtual and override affect inheritance in C#), so I don't need the mouse too much...

I use rechargeable batteries in both my mouse and keyboard, and just swap them out as they fail. Too many kittens in the house to rely on keeping something in the charger, let alone on my desk and not underneath the couch. >_>

after just a few days?? with my old surfman, i didn't have to recharge the batteries for at least 3 weeks... maybe 6... didn't really measure the time they lasted. with my new MS wireless optical mouse, i don't know how long they last, but it's been 3 weeks already with it, without recharging (although the description for this mouse said something about it using less battery power than previous mice). And that's even without ever turning it off (my surfman had on on/off switch) and including with it seeming to blink all the time (which I suspect isn't normal).

with both the surfman and the new mouse, i use rechargeable batteries which I can swap out.

another thing you can try is turning on MouseKeys, so you can use the numberpad keys instead of the mouse. it's a lot less convenient than using a mouse (especially for selecting text or doing drag&drop), but it works.
