Can't remember if I updated (I did phone/email a large chunk of people), but we had the announcement on Tuesday as to whether how many people in our work pool were being made redundant.
There are apparently 214 people in my pool (Developer, as opposed to Senior Developer, Analyst, Senior Analyst, Project Manager, etc.).
Of those 214 we are losing: None.
I then had to go back to my team and tell the people (who are facing redundancy rates of 25-34%) that I was at no risk of redundancy. Which felt horrible.

Date: 2004-05-14 03:20 am (UTC)He considered suggesting that somebody from the Developers should be made redundant, just as a fig leaf.
He suspects that everybody must hate Developers now.
(But, on the flip side: in the next round of redundancies, the cull will probably start with the people whose heads were saved this time around.)
Good news (and sad news)
Date: 2004-05-14 03:21 am (UTC)... in the end the company bosses have a theory of who they need to keep in order to keep money coming in, and they have decided that your pool is essential to that. It's not good news for the other pools, but it should make you feel a little warmer about yourself.
I've dodged redundancy during the last two major purges (apparantly only *just*) but I'm feeling a little happier at the moment as my last appraisal was "highly valued" (with a comment that it was a distinct improvement from last time) but I can feel the ax swinging towards one or both of my documentation team and it's bad but I'm not in a position to give up my job for them, and I'd imagine you're in a similar situation.

He is, however, not laid back about programming, role playing, and getting the latest Terry Pratchett novel soon after it's come out.
And once he's thawed a little, he's great fun to be with.
