Fantastic NY Times article on what it's like growing up with LJ.

Personally, I can't bear to read most journals by people that young, but it's amazing how much it seems to have permeated the culture.

The worst part for me is the sudden guilt-stricken feeling when I realised I pulled up the big guns and fired... at a 17-year-old. (Terribly ageist of me, no doubt.)

God, yes! While my own Resident Teen doesn't keep one (I kind of wish she did, actually - then I'd get to find out what she does all day), she's been involved in friends' LJ-drama a good few times. And the IM-ing! I mean, damn, those are some sharp typing skills she has there.
