Fascinating. I've heard of the famous button pressing cats, of course, but this is a really great article. Also, that dog is really not bright. Try it with a collie... I guess people have.

I did think it was a silly gimmick, as watching body language, gestures and listening to the meows will get you most of the way there. But ... I must admit, I'd really really like to know what specifically me and Felix are doing when it's evening front doorstep time. He squeaks at me to open the door and we sit together and stare for a while at the farm across the road. I don't know why.

#2 - I'm still puzzled, what's wrong with kids in this century. I started using matches at about 5; at 7 I was responsible for firing the stove while my mother was at work and my grandfather was hit with Alzheimer; knives: my mother bought me an axe when I was 7: to chop the firewood. Of course I used knives before, and all the kids in our neighborhood did, we made wooden toys using knives, axes, nails, hammers. I don't think we were smarter. As to sexual kinks, frankly, I was clueless about kinks, but when I was about 8, I draw a comic strip to explain to my classmates where children come from (many were clueless). It was not a sex education, it was a biology. At 7 healthy kids are not interested in anything sex-related. I remember one classmate invited me to go view the girls in the restroom, through the hole. I did consider that guy as some kind of pervert. More, at that age boy's access to female baths was a stardard solution for not having bathtubs in the homes.

Oh, whatever. It's a different world now. Is it better? Hardly. Maybe in some aspects.

I didn't have an axe, did use knives, fire... and I too was the 8 year old kid explaining where babies came from!

I think it's still pretty much like this in Germany from what I see... Kids play with fireworks for sure.

I am terrified of teaching words to Caspar because if he says he misses me then I’ll never leave the flat again.
