Date: 2025-11-09 04:45 am (UTC)Speaking to you live from what this week became a Bird flu "observation zone". On the other side of town it's a full exclusion zone (no poultry movements in or out). So there's cases. We have a huge huge huge wild bird population, including migratory species. Nearly everyone here (except me) keeps "backyard chickens". I trust only about one or two neighbours to do the right thing if they have illness in their flock, and one I outright suspect of previously dumping diseased carcasses. And I think it's pretty much slaughter season...
I'm in former East Germany, that (likely due to historical mandatory vaccinations) has a massive population of vaccine refusers, plus a hard/dismissive attitude to illness.
I believe bird flu is 90% fatal to cats? My beloved ex-feral cat Felix hunts, including birds. :-(. Thankfully, doesn't seem to be targeting them right now.
