Totally agree. I didn't see it as saying "Always reach out to your friends you've lost contact with." - More "Think about whether the barrier to reaching out is a real one."

It's always tricky with advice. There's an awful lot of advice where you'd give one set of advice to one group of people and the opposite advice to a different group, but prefacing all advice with "This might not apply to you if you are the kind of person who has the opposite problem" is something that is tricky to make come across well.
