I absolutely do not know what to think about the fact that people get so attached to LLM chat programs.

I do know it's absolutely alien to me. No idea if it's because I'm a very very physical being myself, absolutely embodied, my body IS me and if I can't experience a person (or animal) in the material realm,I just don't get any emotional connection. A program doesn't have emotions, I'm bemused as to how there could be a relationship, given that - but clearly other people are made differently. Gosh, I don't think I would personally want a relationship with someone who is capable of feeling and thinking about and treating a program as if it had emotions and intentions. I would wonder what on earth they could make up in their heads and hearts about ME!

I don't think I CAN understand this phenomenon. Maybe as a computer professional, who works with software all the time,I am less likely to ever conflate a program with a person.

I don't know why, in short. But I don't know why about other sorts of human behaviour, so if these people aren't causing harm to anyone else (other than possibly themselves) with what I see as total delusion, then , well, genuine good luck to them in finding happiness in their weird hobby. (It's not like I don't have weird hobbies of my own!)
