Re 3.
It's not often that I feel as strongly flung out of a piece of writing as by
"or give me eye-contact when talking to me".
There I was, thinking that the subject was broader than only enforced feeding of children but, about discouraging arbitrary rules and considering reasons. Then wham.
I don't think of myself as specifically attached to eye contact or lack of eye contact. My reaction may be related to my having been thinking about the value of convention and how to decide where it applies and how to explain that to others. On the other hand, maybe, I'm just a consent fetishist.

Yeah. I *do* make the kids turn off their phone/tablet when talking to me. Because otherwise they don't pay any attention. But they don't have to look me straight in the eyes.

I don't see how mandatory reporting is going to help if the problem is the police covering it up.
