A fair while ago I realised that little updates were going on to Facebook, Twitter, etc rather than here.

And I felt bad about that, particularly because I actively prefer here to those other sites.

But the problem is that when I write a post here links get automatically posted on the various micro-blogging sites pointing to here. Because when I write an actual blog post that's what I want to happen. And for a one line status update I don't really want to have both the update and a link to the equivalent post on here.

What's changed is that I finally got around to working out how to not post those links, providing I put a specific piece of text in the post. In this case, I've gone with the keyword "micropost".

I need to experiment with whether I can have that keyword in tags or if it needs to be in the body of the post (or the subject line).

But anyway, if you see that pop up, that's why.

You got me thinking. There's this space between "one-liner" and "full-on blog post" that I currently explore a lot these days. Some of it I do as threads on Mastodon, but maybe I should write those out on my blog anyway...

I wondered if that's what you were doing - it definitely used to be easier to manage crossposting back before half the internet was on active fire, but I'm delighted you've got it working! What protocol are you using?
