1. No kidding, right? We're in far more danger from the current wave of would-be dictators looking to dismantle our democracies from the inside!

4. Good.

7. *face-palm*

8. I need more sleep, then!

10. Also good!

Tiredness is multidimensional and I think it takes a while to heal.

(I've now forgotten why we're having this conversation.)

That’s very noble of me if so.

10.

This country of ours is clearly going out on a limb on all this!

2. 100% masculine; I am a cis woman. The 'feminine' options struck me as almost entirely ridiculous (and why on earth are these gendered, anyways??). If nobody's share of the money is going to be decreasing either way you choose, why would you not choose to do good to another person and choose the option with the greater overall payout, even if it isn't 'fair'? Where's the fairness in essentially cheating somebody out of something for no gain?

(...with the caveat of the thought that crossed my mind as I was filling it out, "Tom is the only person getting more money in this particular situation; do I like Tom?")

I think it'd be much more difficult - and be a much more interesting study - to make those decisions if one's own share was decreasing as other peoples' shares increased, though.

My reaction was, this situation (and all its irrelevant variants) is clearly manufactured to create friction due to perceived unfairness [fx: eyeroll], so obviously the best course of action is to maximise the take from the experimenters and blame them for the inequity.

Trans woman in my case and my style is apparently 'extremely feminine' because I choose to be equal with others which strikes me as bizarre.

I suspect it'd be more to do with my being a Quaker than my being a woman!

How significant is it that this is only for say "a weeks worth of fancy coffees" ?

Would you give the same answers if we were talking about the whole economy of a nation ?
Or if we were at the start of a two week holiday at a resort where purchases were only possible in "Resort Dollars", so you could be causing non-trivial inflation ?

I'm a cis man and got 100% feminine.
Given the way the survey felt "loaded", I gave up reading the names and amounts and just decided "why should I always give everyone else more than me" and went with the equal option.

I went for the "selfish" option that put me best *relative to the others* and reading your justification it seems that you thought of what was best for the whole group.
I could easily take a stereotype and call mine "masculine" and yours "feminine".

It would be harder since there are clearly more than two races, but I wonder whether the "results" would be the same if some groups were one race/tribe/nationality and other groups were another, rather than male/female ?

--

I am not even confident that my answers here would match in real life - assuming that my answers IRL would be consistent.

Plus, the survey appears to be set up to test whether it matters whether the other recipients are "Anna and Clare" or "Alan and Charles" but then the results don't appear to have done anything with that ?

...you know how people get really upset when they discover someone else doing the exact same job earns way more? Even when it's people who are quite well-off and are earning well above average and wouldn't be earning as much if they worked somewhere with less discriminatory policies?

That.

1) It's worse than that, because overblown fear of crime is what's driving parents to keep their children under tight control and not allowing them the freedoms without which they'll never learn to be adults.

2) It's like the trolley problem: I find tests like this completely unreal and refuse to take them.

3) I'm supposed to be acquainted with the topic of copyright, but I have no idea what to think about this.

6) I'd been planning to watch that documentary. Now maybe I think I shouldn't.

2) With the proviso that I spent 5 seconds on this after staggering in from work and only read a tiny amount of the page content, I bear out the hypothesis. CIS woman. Chose equality. TBH, I didn't actually look at the different values beyond noticing what was equal and what was unequal.

That said, I don't necessarily think I'd change my answer on further consideration. If there are three of us and $48, why aren't we getting $16 each? There's something inherently suspect about it.

Perhaps the 'me' getting the lower amount in this scenario is black, or a gypsy, or disabled. And then the experiment is repeated 100 times, so that now while we all have more, hypothetical minority me is $400 worse off than Anne.

Reasonable chance that you can find some conspiracy nut who is prepared to tell you that the pyramids are actually a BitCoin mining set up.
