Hee hee, thanks for number 1! So many of the higher ups in my company are such fanboys / optimists. I know us devs (etc) are a PITA sometimes but I just point out COBOL, Basic and other attempts to let non techs "just join the dots". I'm profoundly unconvinced that this go round is hugely different...

Agreed! I was hoping the author would show us the demand curves for some of the genAI-using things, to compare to that first graph, but I guess it's too soon to have solid numbers? That's going to be a mighty satisfying graph when it does come out!

I think a lot of people got sucked in by the surface of things, and started thinking that it actually understoor what it was saying, and all we had to do was persuade it to not make things up (like a recalcitrant teenager, or something like that). Rather than it just stringing together sentences with a high probability, and that being good enough to churn out believable things that happened to be true 80% of the time!

Fad-driven IT strategy is A Thing: there are still plenty of exciting blockchain projects in the corporate IT world, running to completion and entirely without any useful application.

Oh yes. Nobody wants to be the only people who don't have the latest, greatest thing. Even if there isn't really a use for it.
