1. This is more significant than I thought: they removed and Anti-Abortion Activist ...
... but less then it might have been. They don't say that his dismissal was related to his views on abortion or to his activism.

The Catholic church is still firmly anti-abortion. He just went way over the line with his activism, as far as I can see.

He went into Full-On Obnoxious territory, so the Vatican decided that wasn't good for the brand at all. It might set an unanticipated precedent anyway.

Oh, and all signs have vanished of the Twitter rule, but you still can't send Mastodon links in messages...

I would guess that it's related to things like his election denialism and, probably more important to the Church, his denial of communion to Catholics who voted Democratic, and his defiance when his bishop told him to cut it out.

Haven't heard anything about priests denying communion to politicians who support the death penalty, equally obnoxious to Catholic theology. It's just abortion, and they apply it even to politicians like Biden who are personally anti-abortion, they just refuse to impose their religion on everybody else.

The thing is, this is even weirder than you'd think.

This was a priest who did a video ranting about the Democrats on election day 2016. On that video, he had an aborted fetus.

On the altar of a chapel where he said Mass.

That is probably what they're referring to by blasphemous communications. This guy is nuts in a way that makes it kind of inevitable that he was gonna be defrocked, the only weird part is the lag time.

I've seen some suggestions that the Twitter ban on posting social media links breeches US anti-trust regulations and the new (on the statute books but not yet in force) EU rules on gatekeepers on the Internet.

I've seen that too. Hopefully they can keep him vaguely in check, at least long enough for everyone to flee!

Do people need an active Twitter account in order to leave Twitter?

It makes it much easier to find your existing friends on Mastodon if you're able to post links to your new home.

What really gets me about Musk is how he frames everything so personally, as if we were targeting him as an individual instead of his businesses. And then calls in his mom for support.
