Yesterday was spent on the train back from the Enchanted Forest and then at a birthday party for a five year old.
Today I discovered that my volunteering for redundancy had paid off and that I'll be needing a new job in February.
Later on I may have time to read some links.

Welcome to the ranks of the voluntarily redundant. Try to take some time off in the New Year before letting recruiters shop you around. And don’t take the first offer!

I shall look around - a few people have made suggestions. I mostly want something that I can feel okay investing effort into, and care about without worrying that I'll get burned over it.

Good luck with filtering vacancies for jobs of interest. I started a new job almost exactly a year ago, and it's a much better match for my abilities than the last one.

Congratulations, I think? When I was made redundant I took a few months to go on longer holidays, do self-imporovement courses and work out what sort of job I actually wanted. I felt that it was a good investment of the money, and it really didn't hurt when I started looking for jobs.

Alas, my family's Enchanted Forest trip went rather awry. Relevant parent contracted an infection and was in hospital on antibiotics when the tickets were for so they couldn't take my kids while I'm here in Asia. The Enchanted Forest folks denied the claim on the ticket insurance because, as well as having incipient sepsis, of course parent's blood glucose was high because of the infection (which followed COVID, maybe no coincidence), and they are diabetic, so the hyperglycaemic aspect was deemed a disqualifying preexisting condition. In short: don't bother with the insurance, they'll look for any tangential excuse to wriggle out of paying up.

I'm sorry, that's a shitty way to treat people! If they have two issues and one is pre-existing then the other should still count!
