1) This is a bit about how the British legal system works that I hadn't known. (I don't just mean the strike, I mean how the barristers are paid in the first place.) Interesting, also, to find journalists embracing the term "hack" which is generally considered pretty insulting over here.

2) We're living in a land of evil. I've gotten in an exchange with a man who wants me to feel the pain of workers in "crisis pregnancy centers" (those are the ones that pretend to offer counseling but really only have anti-abortion propaganda) who are being threatened by abortion-rights protesters, when doctors offering abortions are actually being murdered by anti-abortion fanatics.

3) This is a rare example on this list of an article on a scientific topic which actually explains in lay language what it's talking about.

4) This, on the other hand, identifies two kinds of creativity but its attempts to define the difference between them are of no help whatever.

5) "while all the men in the village may benefit if one of them becomes a monk, the individual monk’s decision does not further his own genetic fitness." Yes, I imagine there would be a problem with this.

I wonder if they asked any visual artists? Not that I am one, but I did actually take watercolour painting classes for some years in my distant youth; I do remember when I first saw the photo of the dress and someone asked me which colourway I saw, I could only say that all it looked like to me was a lighter colour and a darker colour, and there was no way to tell exactly what colours exactly either was because it was in shadow and the lighting was funny...

The article about The Dress seems to be denying that people who see both (like me) exist.

Agreed.

Horrific, and the people who made that happen still aren't done trying to make atrocities happen.

I'm going to blame it on Covid bleargh and lack of sleep, but it took me three readings to realise that item 1 isn't "Why British barristers are edible".
